culinary confusion.
There seems to be some confusion between American's and the rest of the English speaking world on what to call various baked goods. I thought the advent of the internet would clear up a lot of misconceptions, but I still run into people online who just can't understand what the other side is talking about. So for those who want to know, but don't feel like reading, I present this handy-dandy chart!
I will say, I am not entirely sure about the Cookie Bar vs Slice bit. In my experience not all slices are cookie bars in the traditional sense, but they are always a bar shaped, layered dessert with a cookie-type base. In the shops the most popular option seems to be Caramel Slice.
While we are on the subject of baked goods, they totally have hot cross buns here! I always knew they existed, but I thought they had gone a bit extinct after… I don't know, the plague? I never expected to see them in my local supermarket! As a holiday surprise I might have to pick some up for Easter and entertain Seth with a rousing rendition of the song of the same name on his recorder.

Well, that's all for today folks! I do have an incredibly relevant recipe waiting in the wings, but seeing as it's almost 2 am I am going to save it for a later date. Happy Monday, America!
